I am back again

I haven't been updating my blog for the last few months, But I hope to do so now. In the next 2-3 days, i will add all the cakes that I made during this time.

To begin with, I experimented with a butterscotch cake, which came out good.

My dear friend was going to have a baby girl, and I made this eggless Pineapple cake with pineapple filling for her.

And of course,  how can I forget my friend's lovely daughter who was just a month away from turning 1. This was a cake for people with all sorts of allergy - This is Dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, soy-free chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.

Valentines day was not far and the dance school kids from my daughter's class enjoyed the cupcakes.

And to celebrate the day at home, we had  special cake. Red velevet cake with cream cheese frosting .. yummm!!!!

More to follow .... till then.. enjoy !

Repeating Ganache

Winter makes you lazy. And I was lazy enough to download the pictures for last one month and update the blog!

My sister and her husband visited me in December. They had seen the Ganache cake pics and wanted me to make it for them! And so I did ! This time the Ganache was thicker, and I filled the cake with strawberry filling and ganache as well for a richer taste! The cake was also served at the new year party I hosted next day.

With the leftover ganache, I made chocolate truffles. Need to learn a lot to perfect that! Just made a few, but they were good to taste :)

(Un)successful cookie attempt

Part 1 : Successful Chocolate chip cookies
How can Santa go hungry when he delivers gifts! So, Mom and daughter duo baked cookies!
Santa loves chocolate cookies, and they came out yum :)

And Anisha was really a big helper, from measuring to cutting out the shapes, she helped me with every little bit! Not to forget keeping quiet so that Aashi keeps sleeping, and lets us bake .. LOL !!!! I must say, Santa was very pleased ;) The gifts say it all!!!!

Part 2: Unsuccessful Coconut cookies

Though tasty, the coconut cookies were a disaster for me :( I wish Anisha would have helped with these as well! The baked outcome was one big sheet of coconut dough, which I managed to cut into circles, to make it a little presentable.

But for a first attempt on both types of cookies, I think I fared just well enough that they were over pretty soon !

Bundt Cake

Happy New Year everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoying the cold weather. What's better than baking to keep you warm !!

I baked a Bundt cake for Christmas, didnot decorate it, since we were going out of town, infact we cut it on the airport with friends! Orange eggless cake it is ! Came out really soft and moist, but the orange flavor was not as intense. Need to add more next time! It was all gone in a few minutes, given the fact that we were all starved at the airport as well !!

Ganache it is ....

Somebody once told me .. try making Ganache, and you would not like to go back to Chocolate buttercream frosting. Boy, how true! Simply awesome is what it is. And making it was even more fun :)
Also worth mentioning is that this cake was my first official order .. yay !! I am thankful to have such people around who let me experiment with it as well.
From the top
I wanted to try different recipes and this was the perfect opportunity! This is a 2-layer cake. Bottom is Devil's food cake and the top is Hershey's rich chocolate cake. I say Hershey's because I used Hershey's Cocoa and it turned out really well than the Nestle one!
The cake has canned cherries filled inside along with the ganache and is frosted with two "generous" layers of dripping ganache. So, please don't even start counting the calories ;) A colorful arrangement of fruits is what can classify it as healthy !!
My cake box came home empty and that vouches for the taste!
I was happy with it overall, but I think I can do better.

Cakes from the past ..

So, today I have been trying to dig pictures for the cakes I have done in the past. There are a few cakes from the pre-digital era which are somewhere in the picture boxes, but here are the others I found.

August 2006
My precious turned one! The first cake ever I made for a party of more than 70 people. It wouldn't have been possible without the love and support of my dear husband and my sister!

August 2007
The following year.. the theme was Nemo ...

I also made the bags for return gifts ...
August 2008

By the third birthday, it was Dora all over the place. The strawberry cake was a quick fix for her birthday.
The party cake was a 2-tier Dora cake.

And the bags for return gift were handcrafted by me :)
Time to sleep now ! Thanks for stopping by!

Fondant cakes - Part 2 ...

Here are the cakes I did for kids birthdays.

BLOCKS CAKE - May 2010
This first one was for my daughter's birthday. it took a lot of time to decorate each cube. These were made out of a 9x13 sheet cake. Each big cube is 3x3x3 and the smaller one is 2x2x2. It was a pineapple cake with pineapple chunks and buttercream filling.

3-TIER CAKE - May 2010
Then I very courageously decided to make the cake for the birthday party as well. I made a 3-tier cake with 10", 8" and 6" cakes. The 10" was a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, 8" was a pineapple cake with custard filling and the 6" was a half chocolate half pineapple with strawberry preserve filling. The time and effort put in the cake was well worth it !

PRINCESS CAKE- Aug 2010
My older one wanted a princess cake for her 5th birthday. She was dressing up as Belle for her princess party, and that's what my cake was for her. I did it in the night and it was priceless to see her eyes beam in the morning to see the cake exactly what her dress looked like :)
The little hearts in the front was where the candles were put !

BIRD CAKE- Sep 2010

This cake was for a very dear little girl who turned 2. She loves birds and that was what the cake was designed with in mind. It was a 2-layer eggless cake, one layer was chocolate and the other was orange cake. The birds are all edible and made of fondant.

I hope you enjoyed looking through all these!

Smiles and Cheers!!!
